It’s kind of ironic that I have a hosting and homemaking book coming out next week, as, simultaneously, Husband and I have been packing up our beloved rented bungalow in California and preparing to move across the country next month with no real employment opportunities, or solid idea of where we’re going to live next.
After over a decade of being Angelenos, we’ve made the decision to leave California, moving back East to be nearer to my family and toward our own version of the Promised Land. (For us, it’s named Virginia.) True, this happened because of job layoffs, but other than the initial freak-out, we decided to see it as an opportunity rather than a crisis.
This is our life right now.

Pinup Perfection Magazine Issue #11
It’s a big fat article with photos and illustrations, a great little preview of what’s to come in the Hosting With Style book!
The print version is $12 and the digital version is $5. Enjoy!
Just a quick post today on the Hosting With Style book project.
OMG SO EXCITING!
We had a great photo shoot this past weekend with two more lovely models. One more photo shoot to go and it’ll be a wrap!
I also have proofs on the way to me from two book binders to pick out which printer I prefer. As the layout designer and graphic artist, that’s just as exciting for me as the actual content coming together.
A few weeks ago, we had another great photo shoot for the book. Usually with the book project or article photos, I’ve been the only model, but we’re shooting several other ladies and gents this month.
Directing and shooting
Husband and I have been really working well together as a photography team. He’s the photographer, equipment tech, and lighting expert, and has been growing with on-set direction. I’m the creative director, hair and makeup artist, and set designer, and I also edit the photos when needed.
I hope you had a terrific Independence Day and are enjoying your summer.
Just a break in my ‘Featured Artists” posts to let you in on some behind-the-scenes fun on what’s going on with my book, Hosting With Style – Beretta Fleur’s Guide To Parties and Homemaking, which is set to be released this fall (September/October).

One of my favorite blogs, A Slob Comes Clean, features my recipes for Curried Egg Salad and Curried Potato Salad today. (Thanks, Nony!)
These are great side dishes for your Independence Day Celebration, and they’re Vegan and Gluten-free, too. Happy 4th, everyone!
Despite me having a raging flu, Husband and I shot the cover of my book last weekend!
Oooh looky! I was interviewed for Chronicles of a Sweet Tooth’s Nearly Famous Wednesday!
Read my thoughts about pinup, photography, and get a look at some pictures.
Thanks to my special fellow pinup, blogger and all around gal pal Katty DeLux for the interview!
The lovely Katty!
